Mike Davis here.
I listen to NPR. Every once in a while, they do these annoying fundraisers. At least, I considered them annoying until I gave it a little thought: This is how they pay the bills.
It’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve asked for donations, but I could really use some help to keep Lovecraft eZine running. As you know, my wife and I have funded the eZine from the beginning; but last April, she was laid off. She turned that into an opportunity to become a teacher, and I’m very proud of her… but I’m sure it won’t come as a shock to you how little teachers make. People become teachers because they care about kids, not for the pay.
Anyway, there is no way — no way — that I can fund The Lovecraft eZine on her current salary. And yes, the eZine costs money: I pay the writers, I pay for storage space for the audios, and more. It costs literally hundreds of dollars a month. (And for those who don’t know, I’m unable to work. I have a chronic illness that causes me extreme pain and fatigue, 24/7.)
There are some people who donate $5 a month, but not very many. (Though I want to say again how much I appreciate those who do.) And I do make a little bit from Kindle sales and from people buying through the Amazon portal, but again, these amounts are very small. I need some help.
I was going to wait on this fundraiser, but… I just spent $300 on our vehicle today that I wasn’t anticipating. And the October issue is coming out next week — I need to pay those writers. And next month there are more writers, more bills to pay.
So I’m going to do a little fundraiser. If The Lovecraft eZine means something to you, please consider giving $5 or $10 a month via Paypal. It will come out automatically. For most of us, that small amount of money isn’t something we’d miss, but if a bunch of people do it, it really adds up and helps the magazine.
This is a full-time job for me. There’s a lot to it. If you love the blog, the Facebook page, the FREE monthly Lovecraftian fiction, the weekend video chats that keep us all close, then please help me keep it going. (I also have THREE Lovecraft eZine books coming out soon, so there’s a lot in the works!)
Below, you can set up automatic donations to The Lovecraft eZine, or you can give a one-time amount. Please help me keep this thing going. I don’t like to ask, it bothers me to ask, but it’s my only option. And I guess if NPR can ask for money to keep things running, so can I.
(For those who would suggest a Kickstarter, I’m saving that for the upcoming Autumn Cthulhu book. Stay tuned for details.)
Thanks for helping.
