“Lovecraft eZine” now has a Minecraft server! First project: Innsmouth!

Lovecraft eZine: A Lovecraftian magazine, a community, a web tv show, and now… Minecraft!

I thought it would be fun to create a Lovecraftian world in Minecraft.  Our first project is Innsmouth, and it’s coming along nicely!  (See the screenshots below.)

But that’s just the beginning.  We’re going to recreate the Mountains of Madness, R’lyeh, and many more places and scenes from Lovecraft’s stories.

I’ll post progress pictures periodically here at the website and at the eZine Facebook page.  If you want to stay in the loop on this project, the best thing to do is to sign up for email notifications on the top right side of this page, LIKE Lovecraft eZine on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter.

What’s it all for?  Why are we doing it?  Because it’s fun!

I’ll allow people in to explore soon.  Eventually, it won’t just be for exploration — there will be games as well.

Special thanks to Harlan Guthrie, James Begley, and Brandon Skinner for their hard work on this project so far.  You guys rock.

If you are good at building in Minecraft, and want to join this project, email me at lovecraftezine@gmail.com .

Here are some screenshots of our progress so far (courtesy of James Begley and Harlan Guthrie):

  1. Oh my goodness…I want to see R’lyeh…or the Elder City…or the Yithian archives…or the Mountains of Madness…or the Witch House of Keziah Mason (OR the other dimension! Or the Center of Ultimate Chaos! Or Yuggoth! Or the Church of Starry Wisdom!)! Wow…I want to see a lot. I am so freaking annoying.

You did such a great job on Innsmouth. I really applaud this – this is something I want to see REALLY badly. Any idea when it might come out? As for a game, have you considered doing one where you are Robert Olmstead and you have to flee from the Innsmouth folk/Deep Ones?

Sorry if I’m annoying you, but there’s just so much to say about this wonderful project.
