New Lovecraft-inspired game: “The Vanishing of Ethan Carter”

I’m working on a list of Lovecraftian-themed video games, complete with links, prices, and descriptions.  I’ll be posting it Monday.  In the meantime, here’s a brand new Lovecraftian game that will be on that list: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter already has some very good reviews.  I’ll add my voice to that.  The game creators sent me a review copy, and I’m loving it so far… it’s a beautiful game, full of atmosphere.

Here’s the official game description:

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person story-driven mystery game that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery… You play the game as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home of Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul quickly discerns might not be the only local murder worth looking into.

Let me say it again: What a beautiful game.  The graphics are incredible.  And any Lovecraft fan will really enjoy playing this one.

  1. If we’re talking Lovecraftian games, Eversion is near the top of that list. Eversion is a seemingly cute and innocent puzzle platformer, but (obviously) things aren’t always what they seem. You can get it on steam for like $5.

  2. I’m playing this game right now. All I can say is “Wow”!

The graphics are beautiful and the story is straight out of a Weird Tales story. It looks absolutely gorgeous on my PC.
