Health problems; taking a couple of weeks off.

Hello friends —

Mike here. I spent most of last Monday in the ER. I woke up to my throat burning. I’m used to pain (I have chronic pain) but I’ve never felt anything like that before. It was unbearable. I also could barely breathe or talk. So I went to the ER.

They did a CT scan. Apparently, I have a 4cm mass on my thyroid. I have an appointment with an ENT later this week to find out more. It might be cancerous, it might not be. Either way, it’s hard to swallow, and I’ve since learned that this kind of thing can cause extreme fatigue — and I already have chronic fatigue.

Due to my age and the mass’s size, the likelihood of it being cancer is higher than it would have been if I were younger and the mass was smaller. Nonetheless, the odds remain in my favor. Regardless of the outcome, the mass will need to be removed.

So that’s what’s going on. The fatigue is keeping me from getting much done. My wife says that I should take a couple of weeks off, so I’m going to do that.

I hope that all of you will bear with me in the interim. I hope to be back at work around April 26th. During this time, I will be away from email and social media.

Thanks for all of the support, my friends.

Mike

  2. Hope you recover okay. I had a partial thyroidectomy in 1992. Worst sore throat for a week but no problems since. Just take a tiny tablet a day. Not cancer though.
