Happy Halloween, everyone! So… what costume are you wearing this year? I want to hear from you, so please comment below and tell us about it!
ALSO… In the next day or so I’d like to post photos of Lovecraft eZine readers in their costumes. Email your photo to me at michaeldaviswriter@gmail.com , include your name and website address, and I’ll send you some traffic.
On today of all days, it’s worth considering just why we love horror, and especially Lovecraftian horror. Eugene Thacker, author of the new book In the Dust of This Planet: Horror of Philosophy, Volume 1, argues that “our world is increasingly unthinkable and that the horror genre can help us, since horror and philosophy have a lot in common.” Interesting, and it’s something that has often occurred to me.
There is a short audio interview with the author at this link — check it out, it’s only 10 minutes long and quite thought-provoking. And if you’re interested, you can click here to buy In the Dust of This Planet: Horror of Philosophy, Volume 1. It’s certainly on my Kindle “to buy” list.
By the way: If you’re searching for scary movies to watch this Halloween, click here for a list of all available Lovecraftian movies on Netflix Streaming! I put this list together a while ago, and it’s still valid. Enjoy.
So… HAPPY HALLOWEEN, everyone. And thanks for being here.
P.S. Here’s a little Halloween treat, courtesy of Andrea Bonazzi: W.H. Pugmire with H.P. Lovecraft!

I made my own Plague Doctor costume. I’ll post pics as soon as my friend with the camera uploads it.

Poor HPL–he looks slightly sickened. Of course, that was late 1920s or early 1930s, when my drag was more in the Garbo rather than the Boy George tradition. It was HPL’s only visit to Sesqua Valley, and the experience was so traumatic for him he never mention’d it in any correspondence–although I believe it inspired his poem “The Ancient Track,” which he composed a year of two afterward, in which he mentions a valley of the lost and dead.

No costume for me this year, but my dog Camila (she’s a dober-mutt) is going as a shark. I’ll try to get a photo if she keeps it on long enough!
