I learned a long time ago that if I see an anthology on a bookstore shelf with the words “edited by Ellen Datlow” on the cover, to immediately pull out my wallet and buy the book. Her books are always a great read — she has a real talent for what she does.
Ellen has a Kickstarter going for a project that’s very close to her heart: A book titled Fearful Symmetries. In her words:
Fearful Symmetries will be an unthemed anthology of about 30 original stories from both veteran talent and new voices, and will be published by ChiZine Publications. I have a stable of writers whose work I love and who I regularly publish; writers like Laird Barron, Kaaron Warren, Elizabeth Hand, Lucius Shepard, Sarah Pinborough, Jeffrey Ford, Joe. R. Lansdale, and others. And while I intend to include writers like these, I also plan to have an open reading period, something I don’t do often, to give a chance to new talent that I may not be aware of.
As of the time of this writing, Fearful Symmetries is at $23,222 (the goal is $25,000), and there are only 3 days left. If they don’t reach $25,000, the project will not be funded — and that would be a real shame, because with Ellen Datlow editing, this will be one hell of a good book.
