I’m hosting another Late Night with Lovecraft eZine video chat tonight; all are welcome!  We will be talking about all things Lovecraft.

The video chat will begin at midnight Eastern time (11pm Central time, 9pm Pacific time).

You can watch the video chat LIVE, or, join the video chat.

If you want to watch it live, simply click the play button on the Youtube video that will be at the end of this post tonight at midnight eastern time.

If you want to join the video chat, email me at lovecraftezine@gmail.com and let me know.  To join, you’ll need a webcam and a Google account.  If you haven’t used Google Hangout before, let me know that in the email and I’ll send you instructions.  It’s pretty easy.  But let me know as soon as possible; there’s only room for 9 people in the chat room.

All are welcome, you don’t have to be a writer or editor.  In fact, that’s what these chats are for: To allow Lovecraftians to just “hang out” with each other.

Or, simply watch the video chat LIVE, tonight at midnight Eastern time (11pm Central, 9pm Pacific).

Go here for the official comment thread for tonight’s LATE NIGHT WITH LOVECRAFT EZINE video chat!  (Opens in a new window, so you won’t interrupt the video chat stream.)  Comment on what we’re talking about and shout out to the people in the chat room!

  1. To follow up on my earlier question, I agree that Lovecraft meant the name to be alien to human tongues, but I meant the actual definition of the Greek word “chthon”. I am sure his grandfather’s ( Whipple Van Buren Phillips) library contained many Greek works of mythology which refer to “chthon”.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonic, which contains: “Some chthonic cults practised ritual sacrifice, which often happened at night time.”.
Also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonic_law, “Chthonic law is defined as a system of law centered on the sacred character of the cosmos. According to Professor H. Patrick Glenn, the Chthonic legal tradition emerged through experience, orality and memory. According to him it is the oldest of all traditions”
Is it simply a coincidence that the word “chthon” and the name “Chthulhu” at least sound similar, but share much of the same mythological references?

  2. Enjoying the conversation.
Question: Do you think Lovecraft based the name “Cthulhu” on the Greek word “chthōn” (of the earth)?
