New ‘At the Mountains of Madness’ movie planned

I received the following email:

I am the PR person for Stella James Studios, and I want you and your readers to know that we are producing the first feature film adaptation of Lovecraft’s classic At The Mountains Of Madness. We released an audio book version by professional voice over artist Barry Schwam in March, and took on the feature film project upon Universal tabling the Del Toro / james Cameron project which they put into “turnaround” in early March.

I found the following at their website:

One the brightest rising stars in cinematography – Keiko Nakahara – will be the cinematographer for the upcoming Stella James Studios adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness, the studio announced today. The film, to be shot 3D, will present great challenges as well as opportunities to Keiko, who was recently honored by the American Society Of Cinematographers as one of the country’s outstanding up-and-coming cinematographers.

  1. I had such high hopes with Del Toro, but will be very interested to see how this production turns out. I totally agree, I hope the foundation of this film will be characters and not just a CGI/3D monster fest. Some depth and power and yes, show us just enough to thrill in that nightmarish creeped out way, without becoming tedious. Keeping my fingers crossed this will turn out amazing!

  2. Can’t wait to see it! The cinematography will be key – you have to see enough to be disturbed, but not enough to be blase. The director will be the next crucial piece – Del Toro would be fabulous, but… I’ll be interested in seeing how they manage non-Euclidean geometry, but 3D could be a great method!

  3. I was extremely disappointed to find out that Del Toro was not going to be working on this movie. I was hoping to see his “creature” interpretation of one of my favorite stories. But I’m happy to hear that someone else will be bringing the story to life!
