Lovecraftian Links: South Park Cthulhu, a free Lovecraftian novel, and more!

Hopefully these links help you get through your Tuesday work day… and stay tuned, because there’s a new contest coming soon that will knock your socks off!

The Stars are Right as ‘Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land’ Launches: This new game already has tons of great reviews.  After a year of intensive development, the small indie team of Red Wasp Design have announced that their anticipated title, Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land has launched on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The game is a turn-based strategy RPG inspired by the works of cult horror writer H.P. Lovecraft and developed in co-operation with Chaosium, the publishers of the cult horror role playing game, Call of Cthulhu…

The Swamp Terror Movie, by Jimmy Moberg: Watch below.  I wanted to create an old silent movie from the old horror movie era when Actually they did do great monster movies. This was something I was burning to get out.  But also a lot of HP Lovecraft inspiration did get into the story as you will see. But behold and enjoy out of “The Swamp Terrror-movie”!

South Park – Mysterion Rises: And speaking of great Lovecraftian shows, I loved this.  Coon and Friends, now led by Mysterion, work together to help save the people of the Gulf from the dark lord, Cthulhu. The Coon, scorned by his fellow super heroes and working alone, is out for revenge…

The Amulet, by William Meikle: A really great Lovecraftian novel that is temporarily FREE for your Kindle or Nook!  I read the print version of this book (which sells for $15) several years ago and really enjoyed it.  Derek Adams is a Glasgow PI with plenty of time on his hands. Until the Bogart Case walks in. A priceless family heirloom has been stolen and everyone in town is looking for it. The stars are right once more, and an ancient evil has been awakened from its dreaming sleep. It was supposed to be an easy case, fast money. But pretty soon Derek is up to his armpits in bodies, femme fatales and tentacles. The city’s dark side has him. And it doesn’t want to let the Midnight Eye go…

Echo Bazaar Review: Echo Bazaar isn’t just a text adventure in the same vein as the early Infocom classics. That’s just the basic structure, although with a more modern sensibility about gameplay. What makes this game special is the content: H.P. Lovecraft meets Sherlock Holmes meets Edward Gorey meets Lewis Carroll meets Monty Python. Early Tim Burton wishes he was this weird… (Link to the game here)

  1. Really great links today. I downloaded The Amulet by William Meikle, and shared it to my friends on Facebook. That South Park episode was really hilarious. I saw it when it first aired. I wish I had the time to play Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Lands, because it really looks great. And Echo bazaar sounds fun as well. I enjoyed watching The Swamp Terror.
    Keep the excellent links coming.
