Lovecraft eZine t-shirts! Comments needed.

Hi guys.  Our friend Leslie has come up with what I feel like are some great design choices for the t-shirts.  They will be available to buy, and to win in drawings.  Leslie says,

“For the the back of the shirt, the designs use the well known HPL passage “do not call up…(etc)” from the Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I like this passage because it’s both recognizable and short enough for an interesting typographical treatment, and it kind of sums up the essence of a lot of HPL’s work — what happens to folks who just want to know a bit too much, and go a bit too far to find out.  I’ve taken a basic type treatment that I like and tweaked it 4 different ways, and illustrated each on a shirt mock up. I’ve done a couple in green just to show that the 1-color on the back doesn’t necessarily have to be white.”

See below, and then let me know what you think in the comments section.  And thanks, Leslie, very much.  (Click images to enlarge.)

UPDATE: Thanks for all the comments, guys!  There’s so many that for me to keep track of what the majority likes, I need to insert a poll here.  Even if you’ve commented below already, please vote!  Your opinion matters!

  1. Front #2 is my favorite, but like and would wear any
Back, prefer #3, the first 2 appear too busy which detracts from the message.

  2. Fascinated to see on voting that my preferences for the front are in the exact opposite order to the way votes are currently running, but my vote for the back is the frontrunner by a good margin.

  3. Front #4
    Back #2

The font for Front #1 is cool but as a decorative font it’s just too much, too busy. Same for Front #3. A t-shirt usually has only a few seconds to be read, so shorter and clearer is best.
Personally, I would rather another, cleaner, font for the back as well, but I really like the way this looks too…

    Good job. I’d wear one.

  4. #1 front
    #3 back

I like how the tentacle is the only green, so I like the white printing on the back. I also thought the back quote was easier to read w/o the oval shape. They are all really nice, though. 🙂

  5. Front: #4
Back: #3, although I like #2, also, but it is so hard to read the circle text … I DEFINITELY like the back text in green, though, ’cause it’s different!

  6. Front 4, back 2, although if you did the first back option in green that would really rule.

Maybe take the book from the back and put it on the front? I think that would work well with #4, like to the left of Ezine. Or it would work fine under any of the other designs.

Any thought to putting this on a button down or tavern work shirt as well as a regular tee? Like maybe with the Ezine logo small on the left side? I’ve seen some cool shirts like that.

Awesome work! I’ll totally buy one of whatever design is produced.

    Ia!

  7. Whoah! I can’t wait to wear one of these tee-shirts, no matter what design is settled upon!

That said, I really like the green-on-black on the back t-shirt design, and I think it pops when the text is in that circle (it’s fine with or without the book, I think). All the fronts are cool, although I think the cursive-styled writing is too hard to read for my taste.

    Great work, Leslie!

  8. For me the winner is #2 (front and back). i like the font, it is fantastic!!

#1 is to aggressive, #3 hard to read. #4 would be ok too. But #2 is incredible.

back: the “circle” gives a good shape and green is one of my fave colors 🙂

    anyway great work
