UPDATE: Wendy Whittenberg Napier won the DVD!
No purchase necessary for this random drawing. Pickman’s Muse has mostly 5-star ratings on Amazon, which is quite a feat. Here’s a review from our friend Reber Clark:
Barret Walz in absolutely fascinating as Pickman in this film which is full of stellar performances of captivating characters (including Fredrick Stone’s near-perfect art dealer), masterful direction and cinematography, excellent music, and pacing that keeps the whole thing moving in the way this Lovecraftian story should. Based on H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Haunter of the Dark” there are scenes in an abandoned church that, shot by incredible cinematographer Robert Cappelletto (who also directed), convey the essence of the crumbling ancientness of Lovecraft’s dark church on Federal Hill in Providence.
I am so happy to see amazingly faithful films of Lovecraft’s work and this is definitely one of the best. Lovecraft’s stories have been so misused by TV and movies that there is probably an entire generation (or two) who just think of his stuff as schlock cinema. This film will help change those perceptions and will also help Lovecraft’s work move to the screen in the manner it shoud – respectfully and seriously.
The stars are right for this one, folks. Cosmic horror never looked so good.
As usual, this will be a random drawing, using a random number generator. To enter the random drawing, simply do all the following:
- Become an email subscriber of Lovecraft eZine (top right corner of this webpage, it’s free). If you’re already a subscriber, you don’t need to do anything.
- Introduce yourself in the comments below. We’ve got a great community here — let’s get to know each other a little better! Please comment with: YOUR NAME (first name is fine), LOCATION (keep it vague if you want), WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT HERE (for a living, who you stalk, something about your family, or whatever you want to say about yourself), and COMMENTS (optional — say hello to the group, or anything else you want to say). Might sound corny, but getting to know each other better is a good thing.
- LIKE Lovecraft eZine on Facebook (click here, OR, click the LIKE button on the top right side of this page). If you are one of the five people on the planet not on Facebook, then don’t worry about it, just fulfill the other two requirements.
This coming Monday, April 16, 2012, I will randomly choose a winner for Pickman’s Muse. Good luck!

Got introduced to this site indirectly by Larry Latham, the creator of the spectacular Lovecraftian webcomic, Lovecraft is Missing (readable here, I warmly recommend it: http://lovecraftismissing.com/).
Big fan of Lovecraft, his works and the Mythos. I also like to delve in a few boardgames that concentrate around the Mythos, such as Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness and Elder Sign, all by Fantasyflight Games. Give them a whirl, for you will not be disappointed!

Hey there, I’m Vulpine (aka Chris). I live in Texas, I work for a webhosting company as a network admin, or as I like to call it, Shoggoth Wrangling. I first found HPL in my early teens, and thanks to a supportive book buying family, I was hooked. Beyond buying way too many Mythos tomes, I’m a history nut, I enjoy bad horror movies, and spent too much time in front of computers.
Oh yeah, and Pickman’s Muse is quite good and creepy, especially for a small budget film. Money can’t buy happyness, but love for one’s art can make a movie great.

Greetings all,I’m Terry and I reside in a nondiscript town that should not be named somewhat east of the large metropolis of Toronto on the north shore of Lake Ontario.I discovered H.P.L. during my mis-spent youth when I would scour all the used book stores in Toronto in hope of find some rare ancient tomes.I never did find a copy of the Necronomicon, however I did come across quite a few issues of Weird Tales, which was almost as good I guess. This started me on a life time obsession with Pulp magazines and other weird things.I love the e-zine,may it live long and prosper!

That’s currently eating up most of my time, but when I have free time I usually read and have started writing horror fiction. I discovered HPL in my mid-20s, and his work has had a huge impact on me. (On par, if not more significant, than discovering Borges) Like the zine, though I have only had the opportunity to read a few issues.

Hey there! Anthony here (Wife Jessica in the other room) We both hail from Staten Island, NY & are avid readers of Lovecraft ezine, tho’ until now not sure why we have posted, other than the usual likes & favorites items throughout the site here. We both are Editors/Authors of The Mythological Dimensions of Doctor Who (Kitsune Books 2010) & The Mythological Dimensions of Neil Gaiman (Kitsune Books 2012). We are big fans & readers of all things, tho’ not limited to, Tolkien, Lovecraft, Douglas Adams, Doctor Who & Neil Gaiman. Since our Neil Gaiman collection (its a volume of academic chapters concerning his work) went to press we have turned our attention back to our fiction writing. We are putting together a collection of short stories, and I am currently drafting a story for submission to Lovecraft ezine sometime in the next few weeks.
We dont win things very often, however regardless of winning anything, this is a great chance to read up on other readers and get to know everyone, at throw our proverbial hat in the ring & say Howdy!
Thank you very much for the ezine & keep up the great work!

Have been reading HPL for nigh on 50 years, yes started young:) Thanks to my Kindle am re-reading the entire canon front to back – as well as
author kin. Have yet to see a movie that really captures HPL for me, though there are some good and sincere artistic attempts.. I can still remember seeing a pre-production still many years ago from a picture that was never made of some kind of Lovecraftian entity or creature emerging from the ground in a wood which conveyed in a single photo more of the visceral terror of a Lovecraft tale than any full movie I’ve seen. Recently discoverd the ezine and am very grateful for its existence – and the existence of fellow travelers on the dark ways.

I hate meeting new people and they ask me “what I do”. I work for a small newsletter publishing company (doing layouts). What I do at my job doesn’t define who I am. I always want to say “I read comics, watch horror movies, and hang out with my friends” becuase that says more about me as a person then my job (I wish I could make a living though superheroes & monsters but haven’t figured out how yet). But that would make my sound like a crazy person or lazy.
Pickman’s Model is my favorite Lovecraft story.
