Many people contact me about their Lovecraftian projects, and I try to pass on only the best ones.  I have not yet seen this movie (it’s on its way to me), but from the trailer, it seems to me that the acting and production are first-rate.

Thanks again for your interest in our upcoming feature film, The Thing on the Doorstep. Great to catch up with you yesterday, looking forward to chatting soon! Below is some info on the film along with a handful of pics…

The Thing On The Doorstep is a psychological horror film based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft.  The film is directed by Tom Gliserman and scripted by Mary Jane Hansen.  Here’s a short synopsis:

Daniel Upton’s relationship with his friend Edward Derby is abruptly changed after Edward becomes romantically involved with Asenath Waite, a hypnotist with an odd reputation. As Edward’s behavior becomes more erratic and events unexplainable, Daniel investigates.  Is it madness…or something far more terrifying?

Behind the scenes:

The film is mainly the work of a collective of three people. All of us have professional backgrounds in film and theatre and we all performed numerous production services during the making of the film. Tom Gliserman is the director, director of photography and editor, Mary Jane Hansen wrote the screenplay, played the role of Asenath Waite, did hair, make-up, etc, while Will Severin produced the film, sound designed it and served as composer.

Other Lovecraft stories were considered, but The Thing on the Doorstep lent itself more readily to a film adaptation. It’s self contained, has three acts and the opening starts everything out with a bang, literally.

Although the film is placed in a contemporary setting, we wanted to craft a horror film that focused on the building dread and the psychological affects it has on our characters and their relationships. There’s a few scares and some blood, but it’s a slow burn. We wanted to create something more atmospheric and unsettling. We also approached the material in a serious manner and tried to retain Lovecraft’s literary style, while still making it accessible to today’s viewer. The film has a modern look, but in many ways it’s very classic in style.

Our film will be making the film festival rounds all across the U.S. this fall, with a few possible in Europe.
