VIDEO: Magic trick with the Necronomicon!

Lovecraft eZine reader and frequent video chatter James Harrison’s job is pretty cool: He’s a magician.  Recently James told me about a magic trick he does involving the Necronomicon!  Watch him perform it in the video below.

Here’s his description of the magic trick:

The urban legend of the Necronomicon is brought up and the book is introduced. So the spectator doesn’t go crazy reading the book, the magician asks the spectator to peek at just one word.

The magician closes the book and begins to figure out what the chosen word is. Once found out, the magician says it was easy, it’s tattooed on your arm. Which it is. Good thing they didn’t choose more than one word. 😉

I usually pick pockets, but I always try to sneak in a little Lovecraft in people’s lives.

Check out James Harrison’s website here: www.pickpocketmagic.com , and be sure to watch the Necronomicon magic trick below.

  1. Very nice book test! There’s a whole subset of conjuring called bizarrism (more specifically a branch of mentalism but whatevs) that borrows from horror fiction- most frequently Lovecraftian themes. There’s something about utilizing books as magic props that demands the conjurer use something like De Vermis Mysteriis or Livre d’Eibon and invocations referencing Ye Black Goat or a top-hatted Egyptian gentleman with his array of bizarre instruments and gadgets.

Eugene Burger, Tony Andruzzi, Christian Chelman, etc. are just a small sample of the greats who (have) use(d) Lovecraftian themes in their magic presentations.
