On the “Late Night with Lovecraft eZine” show Saturday night, we talked about Guillermo del Toro’s recent comments about filming At the Mountains of Madness. He said he’d be willing to do a PG-13 version, instead of an R-rated version.
Is this good? Bad? Or does it not matter at all? And what other concerns should Lovecraft fans have about this movie? Will this movie even get made?
Watch the video below for the Lovecraft eZine panel’s take on all of this!

I don’t think Del Toro wants to do a straight adaptation of “At The Mountains of Madness” but more of a movie incorporating Lovecraft’s mythos into a film. Sort of what they are doing with “The Hobbit” by using story from Tolkien’s appendices to flesh out the film. I suspect he wants to use “Madness” as the main story but maybe use characters, concepts and story ideas from other Lovecraft stories to make a unique narrative. I for one am all for that and trust Del Toro to do a great job if he indeed does go that route.

With Del Toro directing, I’d show up even if it was rated G. Still, R would be a heavier film – which is what I dig.
